Wilpattu National Park is the largest and one of the most significant wildlife park in Srilanka, renowned for its diverse ecosystems, unique natural features, and abundance of wildlife. Covering approximately 1,317 square kilometers, Wilpattu lies in the North Western Province and North Central Province, about 30 km west of Anuradhapura and 180 km from Colombo. Declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1905 and a national park in 1938, it is one of the oldest protected area in Srilanka. The park reopened to visitors in 2010 after being closed during the Srilanka Civil War.
